China Airlines has gone into a code share agreement with China Eastern Airlines. With the China Airlines and China Eastern Airlines code share, the two airlines’ subsidiaries Mandarin Airlines and Shanghai Airlines are also included in the agreement to operate code share flights. China Airlines and China Eastern Airlines now operate code share flights from Toayuan International Airport to Shanghai-Pudong, Xi’an, Qingdao, Nanjing, Ningbo, Taipei-Songshan and Shanghai-Hongqiao. With the code share agreement with China Eastern Airlines and other carriers, China Airlines operates 36 round trip cross-strait flights. Besides the code share agreement, China Airlines and China Eastern Airlines are planning to join the SkyTeam Alliance. The carriers based in Japan and China, Japan Airlines and China Eastern Airlines respectively will offer passengers additional code share flights. Passengers will be provided additional code share flights operated by China Eastern Airlines between Shanghai and Xi’an, Wuhan and Shenzhen on which Japan Airlines will place its code. These additional code share flights Japan Airlines and China Eastern Airlines will be effective as from 3rd June 2010. Both carriers, Japan Airlines and China Eastern Airlines will offer five additional daily code share flights connecting Shanghai with Chengdu and Chongqing. To recall, Japan Airlines code shares 22 flights with China Eastern Airlines. Besides these additional code share flights, passengers are also provided with a large choice of Japan Airlines onboard services onboard of flights.

China Eastern Airlines has declared on 16th April 2010 that it may join the alliance Skyteam. With plans of China Eastern Airlines to join Skyteam, passengers of Skyteam member airlines will be provided of better flight connections around the domestic network of China. To recall, Air France, Korean Air and other airlines form part of Star Alliance.
